Frequently asked questions

Have an absolutely trash question that needs answering? Well, you’ve come to the right place.

GarbageDay is a reminder service that will help you remember your garbage to-do list! Wish you remembered to get your bins out on time? Wish you remembered when the next yard waste day was? Schedule changes due to stat holidays? Well, with GarbageDay, you’re in good hands! We’ll send you timely reminders when it’s garbage, recycling, or even Christmas tree pickup day. We’ve also got other useful home reminders you can sign up for (if you want them, of course). We’ll even share the latest tips on how to be more environmentally conscious through our blog, and we’ll notify you when local and/or eco-friendly deals are available! GarbageDay is owned and operated by RBC Ventures, a subsidiary of RBC Royal Bank, and we’re thrilled that they believe in our vision! At RBC Ventures, we’re going beyond banking to solve problems and transform the way you life your life.
Our reminder service is absolutely free! Like, $0. Zero. Any catch? The only one is: we provide you with local offers from brands we partner with, so that you can enjoy our service for free! Other than that, nothing really. Sign up today for a cleaner and greener tomorrow.
We love hearing from municipalities, especially on ways we can work together to help amplify waste diversion efforts as much as we can! We love staying up-to-date with municipalities and align with municipal websites to ensure information is current. Want to connect? You can send us a quick message here.

Here are some tips to ensure GarbageDay always lands in your inbox:

If you use Gmail: Move a GarbageDay email to your primary inbox. You can do this by dragging the email to your inbox on desktop or clicking the 3 dots on mobile and “Move to” then “Primary”.

If you use Apple mail: Tap on the “From” email address and click “Add to VIPs”.

Other: Add to your address book.

With the app, if Location Services are activated, we’ll access the approximate location of a user’s device to allow the user to subscribe to GarbageDay reminder services without manually entering a home address or to determine if the user has met the requirements of a location-based offer. We’ll only have access to a user’s location information if the user has activated Location Services on their device and allowed the GarbageDay app to use Location Services, and we’ll only access while the app is in use. Users can still receive GarbageDay reminders and offers without activating Location Services.

We take the privacy of our users very seriously, and we are strongly committed to being transparent and explicit around user consent. User location data is only collected and stored for the specific purposes outlined in the GarbageDay terms and conditions.

We take the privacy of our users very seriously, and we are strongly committed to being transparent and explicit around user consent. We never provide personal data to external partners except in cases where the user has expressly consented. If users choose to take advantage of a local merchant offer promoted through the GarbageDay app, we only share the total number of users who visited a particular location to access the offer. This information is shared on an anonymized, aggregate basis.

Since launching our services, we have received feedback from users on how we can make their lives even easier and add more value. Based on that feedback, we introduced a new app as well as new ways users can take advantage of relevant home-related offers and perks. We’ve partnered with select merchants to provide our users with special offers (perks). In return, our merchant partners pay us to distribute such offers to our users, allowing us to provide this service free-of-charge to all.

We love hearing from you! Email us at for any questions, feedback, or even if you just want to chat. Download our updated app here.
We service over 100 cities, across 31 Regional Municipalities! Here is a list of the Collection Regions we provide waste reminders for. If you see the Regional Municipality that manages your waste collection, that means we’ve got you covered. If you don’t see your Municipality below, you can still sign up for GarbageDay. We are working to expand to more cities across Canada. If you pre-register by completing the sign-up form, we will email you when we launch in your city.
